For scanned pages only. This creates page images and can permanently lose searchable text, vectors, links, forms, accessibility and signatures. It is not OCR or general PDF compression. Review small text carefully. Maximum 24 pages, 2,000 pixels on the longest edge.
A page tool, not a full document editor. Encrypted PDFs and interactive forms are unsupported. Exports may lose bookmarks, tags, attachments and signature validity. Keep your originals. No secure redaction or original-text editing.

What can Leafpress do?
Merge PDFs, reorder, rotate and remove pages; extract ranges; split ranges into separate downloads; and optionally downsample scanned pages to JPEG images inside a new PDF. It does not edit existing text, fill forms, add signatures, redact, unlock PDFs or perform OCR.
What stays on my device?
File reading, PDF processing and previews happen in your browser. No PDF contents are uploaded. The hosting service still handles normal page requests and access controls. Libraries, fonts and example files are served from this site; there are no third-party runtime scripts. Files stay in memory until reset or closing the tab. Downloads you save remain on your device.
Will every PDF work?
No. Malformed, encrypted and interactive-form PDFs are rejected. Complex PDFs can exceed browser memory even within the published limits. Images over 20 megapixels are rejected when identified in PDF image objects. Inline or unusually encoded images may still exceed browser memory. Outputs are limited to 40 MB and 60 pages across split groups. Use a smaller document if a preview looks incomplete, stop on an error, and keep your original. This workbench isn’t suitable for legally signed documents or preserving archival/accessibility structure.
Does shrinking always make files smaller?
No. The scan option rasterizes each page and may increase file size. We compare the image-only copy against the standard export of your arrangement. If it is not smaller, the standard PDF is kept as the output. Every original remains available in the workspace. Neither option overwrites your original.
Why is this free?
PDF processing uses your browser, so there is no per-document AI or processing-server bill. Optional donations support development and hosting. Paid products such as iLovePDF Premium and Smallpdf Pro offer broader capabilities and also have free tiers. Leafpress is a smaller page-workflow alternative, not a replacement for every feature.
